Strategic Plan
For more than 30 years, Tri-Valley Conservancy (TVC) has been a trusted steward of the region’s land, supported by dedicated staff and board members, strong partnerships, and a community that cares deeply about the future of the Tri-Valley.
As the region continues to evolve, TVC launched a strategic planning process in 2025 to clarify our role and chart a path forward. TVC is uniquely positioned to strengthen its leadership, visibility, and impact in the Tri-Valley region. By supporting economically sustainable viticulture, securing open space, and increasing community engagement, TVC can ensure the Tri-Valley remains vibrant and resilient.
TVC's strategic priorities identified below allow us to respond to emerging challenges while staying grounded in our mission.
Building on this strategic planning process, TVC is reaffirming and deepening its commitment to its core mission.
This includes:
Supporting a strong and sustainable viticulture economy, while thoughtfully exploring additional agricultural opportunities that contribute to the region’s long-term economic vitality
Clearly defining and strengthening its work to protect habitat and open space
Expanding opportunities to engage and educate youth
Increasing community engagement and outreach
TVC will advance these priorities through its existing programs, with a renewed focus on how its work across vineyards and agriculture, open space, habitat, and community engagement comes together to create lasting impact. This also includes aligning staff time and resources to ensure the organization is well-positioned to meet evolving community needs.
As part of this process, TVC has identified the long-term outcomes it seeks for the Tri-Valley.
These outcomes provide a clear framework to guide decision-making, shape priorities, and ensure that every step forward contributes to a strong, resilient future for the region.
The desired outcomes include:
The Tri-Valley has additional acres of land permanently preserved, ensuring thriving open spaces, productive farmland, and responsible development patterns that safeguard the region’s beauty and character.
A resilient agricultural economy flourishes in the Tri-Valley, with land use that delivers the highest ecological and economic benefits—supporting vineyards, diversified agriculture, and long-term community prosperity.
Future generations of growers, vintners, and land stewards are equipped with the skills and knowledge to sustain the region’s agriculture and open space for decades to come.
Expansion of TVC’s regional presence enables all Tri-Valley communities to benefit from stronger conservation, agricultural vitality, and coordinated land use planning.
A more connected and engaged Tri-Valley community that actively supports conservation efforts, with TVC recognized as a trusted and influential leader in shaping the region’s future.
Long-Term Impact Plan:
TVC’s focus during the next 3-5 years will be on building the foundational systems, partnerships, and community trust necessary for long-term transformation.
These efforts are tactical, targeted, and designed to generate the momentum needed to achieve its long-term impact, and include but are not limited to:
Advancing the pace & volume of agricultural, habitat, and open space conservation easements, working with landowners to donate easements, or purchasing land.
Reverse the immediate trend of converting agricultural land into non-agricultural uses
Encouraging the replanting of vineyard acreage and/or diversifying land use towards other crops as appropriate.
Support young and emerging farmers to secure the future agricultural heritage of the region.
Strengthen financial infrastructure and establish a more robust and sustainable financial platform.
Deepen community outreach, engagement and education on TVC programs including the Youth in Nature Program
Though TVC has completed this strategic plan, our work is still ongoing.
To continue serving the region effectively, TVC is committed to regularly refining and strengthening our approach as conditions evolve. This means staying attentive to changes in the community, the environment, and the broader landscape, while remaining grounded in our mission.
To support this, TVC will consistently monitor both external trends and the progress of its strategic priorities. The board and staff will come together regularly to review progress, evaluate what’s working, and identify emerging needs and opportunities.
Just as importantly, we will continue to engage partners, supporters, and the broader community in these conversations. By listening, learning, and adapting, TVC will ensure its work remains responsive, relevant, and impactful for the Tri-Valley, both today and for generations to come.
