The Transmission Agency of Northern California (TANC) Transmission Project  created quite a stir in the valley.   TANC, a California joint exercise of powers agency, which is comprised of the fifteen members listed below* was planning to build and upgrade about 600 miles of 230 kilovolt (kV) and 500 kV transmission lines, substations and related facilities.  There were five segments of transmission line corridors that extend from northeastern California through the Central Valley and split westward to the San Francisco Bay area and eastward to the Sierra Foothills.

.

Why did we care ?  The split westward to the San Francisco Bay area was going to cut right through the Altamont Hills then Livermore-specifically the South Livermore Valley Area Plan (SLVAP)and then through Sunol .

.

These corridors were identified by TANC to avoid, residential and known environmentally-sensitive areas and to take advantage of accessible competitive renewable energy zones.  Obviously this group is not aware of the SLVAP and the agriculture we have in the Valley (both cultivated and ranching).

.

.

*The members of TANC are the Cities of Alameda, Biggs, Gridley, Healdsburg, Lodi, Lompoc, Palo Alto, Redding, Roseville, Santa Clara and Ukiah; Modesto Irrigation District, Sacramento Municipal Utility District, Turlock Irrigation District and as an associate member Plumas-Sierra Rural Electric Cooperative.
